Veta Mae Southard

Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Veta Mae D. Southard, age 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at her residence. Waiting to meet her was her loving husband of 67 years, Burl Southard. She was born in Hiwassee, Georgia on April 5, 1918 to the late Lawrence Dills and Florence Gregory Dills. Mrs. Southard was a lifetime member of Flemings Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a choir member for 60 years. Her hobbies included gardening, canning vegetables, volunteering at church and cooking for her family. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Junior Southard, daughter, JoAnne S. Bolick, two sisters, Coleen Sawyer and Genevieve Martin. She is survived by her daughters, Mary S. Kincaid and Juanita S. Greene; a daughter-in-law, Gloria T. Southard, six grandsons, one granddaughter, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren. A celebration of Mrs. Southard’s life will be held at Flemings Chapel Baptist Church on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 3:00 PM with Dr. Scott Shoffner and Reverend Lester Honson officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Jim Kincaid, Jeff Greene, Steve Story, Marty Greene, Chris Bolick, and Ryan Southard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Beth Allen, Matthew Story, Jacob Greene, Eli Greene, Scout Bolick, Greer Bolick, Noah Greene and Maddox Southard. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to: Caldwell Hospice, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
