Loving husband, father, grandfather (“Pop”) son, brother and friend, Robert Van Greer, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 20, 2022.Rob was 57 years old and was surrounded by many loving family members when he passed. Rob was born to Dennis Richard Greer and Gail Carlton Greer on January 10, 1965 in Caldwell County.A member of First United Methodist Church, Rob believed in Jesus and always knew his ultimate destination was Heaven. He grew up in Lenoir and attended West Caldwell High School, where he excelled in many sports.He was an All-Conference running back on the football team, and set many records as an All-Conference catcher on the West Caldwell baseball team.He was also a catcher on the Legion Post 29 baseball team, which he truly enjoyed. He had some great coaches that encouraged him along the way. Rob went on to Montreat Anderson College on a baseball scholarship.From there, he attended Western Carolina University and Rhode Island College. Rob also loved the game of golf, and shared his talent and love of the game with his father and many friends.Robert regularly played at Lenoir Golf Course and Cedar Rock.He visited many beautiful courses to play including St. Andrews Old Course in Scotland. Rob went on to be a telephone contract engineer in New England. He worked alongside his father, and on his own, becoming very successful. He and his father started CNC (Communications Network Consultants). He and his family sold this company and later started Universal Mental Health Services Inc., where he was CEO and President. He was also a proud owner of other businesses.His love of golf and Lenoir led him and his father and family to bring a Par 3 golf course and restaurant, Camelot, to Lenoir. He again reopened it as Mulligans. It was a fun and beautiful place in its day.Rob was very passionate about his business and the delivery of superior services to the people and communities served. Now that Rob has passed into the arms of our Lord, we should remember that while this is the end of his physical life on Earth, it’s the beginning of an eternal and beautiful journey for him. Rob joins his father, Dennis Richard Greer; grandparents, Nicholas Abraham Greer Jr.,Ollie Jean Sutton Greer, Robert Carlton and Alma Klutz Carlton, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles and friends who have already passed on and were waiting for him in heaven. Rob was immensely proud of his family and adored his grandson Samuel, who loved his “Pop.”Rob loved his family BIG, and is survived by many loving family members, including his loving and devoted wife and high school sweetheart, Maria Lockman Greer, of Hickory, NC; daughter Carrie Frances Greer Henderson and her husband Brent Henderson; daughter Sydney Gail Greer Everett, her husband Simon Everett and their son Samuel Harper Everett, all of Boone, NC; mother Gail Carlton Greer; sister Alicia Greer Brown and her husband Nicholas Brown; nephew Miles Alexander Austin and his wife, Lauren Crouse Austin; nephew Richard Grayam Austin and his fiancée Brooke Lane; in- laws John Lockman and his partner Linda Nixon, of Florida; Jonjie Lockman and her husband Steve Callis, of Florida; Jennifer Lockman Robinson and her husband Jon Robinson, of Linville, NC; nephews Bergsvein Toverud and Shelton Toverud; and niece Emma Robinson. He also leaves behind his loving and faithful companion, Boo, a tiny, feisty ball of white fur Maltese. A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 24, 2022 (2:00 p.m.) at First United Methodist Church of Lenoir. There will be a celebration of life immediately following at Cedar Rock Country Club.
