Martin Vermillion Lenoir – Martin “Marty” Gilbert Vermillion, 80, of Lenoir, passed away on June 4, 2018 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. Marty was born in Washington, D.C. on June 29, 1937 to the late Martin George and Lucy Simonds Vermillion. He was educated at Eastern High School in Washington, D.C. and continued his education at Caldwell County Community College. Marty spent four years in the U.S. Navy on the USS Heermann. Marty worked for Broyhill Furniture for 27 years and retired from there 1999. He, also, worked at Bemis for 11 years. Marty was married for 59 years to his wife Connie Vermillion. Throughout Marty’s life, he enjoyed camping, fishing, softball, watching his grandsons play ball, and was an avid follower of the Washington Redskins, the Atlanta Braves, and the UNC Tarheels. Marty was a faithful member of Colliers United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, Marty is preceded in death by his son, Steve Vermillion, and his brothers Lamont and Herbert Vermillion. Along with Marty’s wife, he is survived by his sons Martin Gregory Vermillion and wife Carolyn of Lenoir and Carson Vermillion and wife Julie of Johnson City, TN. Marty is survived by one sister: Margot Vermillion Cabral of Perkin, Illinois. Marty leaves behind three grandsons: Grayson, Brady and Aiden Vermillion of Johnson City, TN and numerous nieces and nephews in the Maryland area. . There will be a celebration of life held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at Colliers UMC Church at 12:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Internment will immediately follow the service at the Colliers UMC Church cemetery. The family has requested that memorials may be made to Colliers United Methodist Church at 2625 Clarks Chapel Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
