John W. Brookshire

Boomer – John Wayne Brookshire, age 84, passed away on July 9, 2022 at Hickory Falls Nursing and Rehab. He was born in Caldwell County on April 2, 1938 to the late Bill Brookshire and Mildred Joines Brookshire. He was married to Azalee Livingston Brookshire of the residence for more than 63 years.

He graduated from Kings Creek High School and was drafted in 1961 to the United States Army, serving in Bayreuth, Germany. John was a loving husband and father who cherished spending time with his grandchildren. He was a community farmer, helping plow, plant and harvest many different crops. He loved tractors, trees, timber and the North Carolina mountains. John will always be remembered for his kindness to his neighbors and friends. He loved to visit and talk. He never met a stranger!

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Brookshire.

Other than his wife, he is survived by his children, Kevin Brookshire and his wife, Trudy of Granite Falls; Kaye Ferree and husband, Bob of Summerfield, NC; Kelli Gracely and husband, Kevin of Raleigh; grandchildren, Kaylee and Shelby Brookshire; Daniel and Meredith Ferree; Johnny and Camille Gracely; sisters, Shirley Gray and Sandy Barlowe; and numerous other family members.

A celebration of John’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at 12:00 with Pastor Dwayne Andrews officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Little Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.  Military Honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Caldwell County Veteran’s Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 prior to the service.
