Mr. Jimmy Junior Shell, age 82, of Lenoir passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Caldwell Hospice in Lenoir. He was born June 19, 1939 in Caldwell County to the late Gurnie and Colean Kincaid Shell.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Leona Shell Sanders and Norma Shell Barlow; a special aunt, Betty Kincaid Clark. Survivors include his wife, Martha Gilbert Shell of the home; one son, Jimmy Dwayne Shell; a daughter, Kathy Barlow Eller;grandchildren, Kolby Eller, Laurel and Madison Shell;a sister, Janell Bryant Miller (husband Dale) ; he was also survived by numerous aunts and cousins. Jimmy graduated in 1957 from Kings Creek High School.He served in the NC National Guard, US Air Force and the US Army; he retired June 1, 1989 with over 30 years of honorable service.He received six military commendation medals and other medals and awards covering his periods of service.Some of his overseas assignments included Guam, Okinawa, Taiwan and Korea. After retirement, he played golf until he went to work for Jamie Parsons Chrysler/Jeep dealership and then worked over 20 years for Bob Keen’s Auto Body Repair Shop until he had a stroke in November 2012.He then stayed home trying to enjoy some old timers way of passing the time.Jimmy enjoyed life, his family, his friends,his church, and a good golf game. A memorial service celebrating Jimmy’s life will be held at a later time. Memorial contributions may be made to your local Diabetes Association or to your local Optimist Club to support programs for children.
