Lenoir – James “ Kitty-O” Luther Hackett, Jr., age 72, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Caldwell County on April 15, 1948 to the late James Luther Hackett and Sarah Ferguson Hackett. James was a United States Army Veteran serving in Vietnam where he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star and numerous other medals. James was employed by Anderson Trucking Line for over 30 years.Before his retirement, he received an award for driving over three million miles.James was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn Lindon and Veacie McMillian. James is survived by his fiancé of 40 years, Constance Smith; daughters, Shakeita Hackett of Greensboro; April Hackett; and Larisha Ferguson of Lenoir; Velecia Hackett andRisha McCorkle of Hickory; sons, Theodore, John and Chester Ferguson of Lenoir; and Ricky Adams of Hickory; sister, Sarah Stuckey of Winston-Salem; brother, Jerry Horton of Wilkesboro; 24 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; Two God Children, Tavannya Warren and Tijuan Corpening of Lenoir; he is also survived by numerous other relatives. A celebration of James life will be held at Mitchell Chapel Cemetery on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at 3:30PM with Reverend Kim Moss and Reverend Keith Banner officiating. The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.Be mindful that we will practice social distancing, require a face mask and limit the number of people in the building to 10 at a time.
