Gwen Powell

Gwendolyn Sue Sullivan Powell, 70, of Hudson, NC, passed away on Monday, January 16, 2023, at Caldwell UNC Healthcare following a brief illness.  Gwen or GG, as she was fondly known by all who loved and came in contact with her, was born January 13, 1953 in Burke County to the late Mary Carolyn Beane Sullivan and Rev. Gwyn Paul Sullivan.

Gwen always found something to laugh about and brought a smile to the faces of her family, friends, and those around her. She was a loving person, wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.  Gwen was married to the love of her life, Jesse Wayne Powell, who predeceased her.  Cherishing her memory are her children William Scott Powell and wife Annalisa and Julie Powell Wilson, grandchildren Landon Powell and wife Kaitlyn, Dylan Powell, Justin Powell, Chloe Wilson, and Gavin Wilson. Gwen as “GG” adored her grandchildren, loved each of them individually, and always had time to give a hug and a snack to take home.  Her sister Sandy Tolson, brothers Robert Sullivan and wife Deborah, and Paul Sullivan and wife Beth, along with their children and grandchildren, share special memories of being blessed to have Gwendolyn, Gwen, GG, in their lives.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, followed by a celebration of Gwen’s life at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Chaplain Jason Hines officiating.  Interment will follow at Mountain Grove Church Cemetery.
