Calvin Spencer Smith

Lenoir, NC – Mr. Calvin “Cot” Spencer Smith, age 80, of Lenoir, passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Born April 12, 1930 in McDowell County, Calvin was a son of the late Florence Hagaman Smith and Edward and Virginia Smith, his step mother. He was self employed and Baptist by faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Livingston Smith; three brothers, John Smith, Edward Smith, Jr., and Harold Smith; and three sisters, Kate Bryant, Mildred Robbins, and Ollie Smith. Survivors include his sister and brother in law, Laura & Tony Parton of Lenoir; four brothers and sisters in law, Mitchell Smith, William & Brenda Smith, Wayne Smith, and Warren Smith all from Lenoir; Calvin is also survived by numerous other relatives. A celebration of Calvin’s life will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service. Officiating will be Reverend Paul Dula. The family will have a private interment at the Harper’s Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Charlie Beard, Gary Beard, Charles Smith, Larry Bryant, Alex Moss, and Jonathan Coffey. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
