Wilma Jean Hamby

Hudson, NC- Mrs. Wilma Jean Nelson Hamby, age 79, of Hudson, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at her home. Born January 23, 1935 in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late John and Ella Smith Nelson and the wife of the late Wayne Hamby. Mrs. Hamby loved her garden, her flowers and the birds. She had been active in the HUB in many of its activities. She had a special love for her dog, “Max”. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Jeanette Nichols; 3 brothers, James, Ed and John Nelson and 7 sisters, Nellie Nelson, Ruth Haynes, Pauline Holloway, Maude Holsclaw, Betina Johnson, Kathleen Sanders and Mary Wheeler. Surviving are her three daughters, Paula Abee and husband Donald of Connelly Springs; Debbie Ritch and husband Thomas of Hudson; Tammy Johnson and husband Donald Mack of Stokesdale; her step-son, Steve Hamby of Lenoir; 1 sister, Helen Melton of Derma, Mississippi; 8 Grandchildren and 20 Great-Grandchildren. A celebration of Mrs. Hamby’s life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 5, 2014 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Charles Lewis and Pastor Finley McCoury officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 5:00 until 7:00 PM Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Evans Funeral Service. Pallbearers will be: Mark Kelley, Cliff Watson, Jesse Bullman, Mack Johnson, Zachary Baker, Roger Ritch and Pat Crump.
