Wilma Reeder Brewer, age 83, fell asleep in death on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Miami County, Ohio on May 20, 1939 to the late Ralph and Coral Oaks Reeder.
Wilma retired from Continental Tevis in Morganton where she worked assembling anti-lock braking systems for automobiles. She loved to travel and camp with her family; she traveled in more than 30 states and two countries. She was an active and much-loved member of the Resurrection Hope Church of God. She loved singing in the church choir and participating in the Wednesday night Bible Studies as well as active with the ladies’ group, making items for the Bazaars. For many years she was a volunteer at the Wig Bank of Caldwell County on Friday mornings. She loved serving those who were recently diagnosed with cancer and let them know there is life after the cancer diagnosis. She was a former member of Catawba Valley Quilt Guild and loved making the preemie quilts that were donated to Frye Regional Medical Center and was an active member of the Pine Needles Quilt Guild in Lenoir. The charity project for Pine Needles Guild is Robin’s Nest Children’s Advocacy Center. Her passion was making the comfort quilts that are donated to the center.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 61 years, Jerold Brewer; and by her sister, Arlene Reeder Pemberton.
Wilma is survived by her children, Bill Brewer and wife, Reba; Marie Wood and husband Kenneth; Sheila Swallows and husband, Donald; Eric Brewer; brother, Norman Reeder; sister, Ann Weaver; grandchildren, Mary Downing and husband, Greg; Albert Brewer; Wayne Trexler and wife, Ashley; John Beavers and wife, Krista; Amelia Skelton and husband, Charlie; and great-grandchildren, Isaac and Linus Downing.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Resurrection Hope Church of God conducted by Pastor James Ritch.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM on Saturday at the church prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Robin’s Nest Children’s Advocacy Center or The Wig Bank of Caldwell County.
