Willliam F. Kent

William F. Kent Sr., 69 of Lenoir, passed away at home on March 31, 2006. He was born in the Gamewell Community of Caldwell County on May 13, 1936, to the late Robert A. Kent Sr. and Zella Anderson Kent. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Roberta K. Bare, Anne K. Hickman and Ruby K. Lamkin. Mr. Kent is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Shirley Campbell Kent; two sons William F. Kent Jr. and wife Kathy C. Kent of Lenoir, and David A. Kent and wife Jennifer B. Kent of Lenoir; five grandchildren Kathryn Kent, Kaylen Kent, William Kent III, Jordan Kent and Joshua Kent who all affectionately knew him as GaGa. Mr. Kent is also survived by three brothers, Horry M. Kent, Sr., Robert A. Kent, Jr. and Jim C. Kent, Sr. all of Lenoir and four sisters, Julia K. Watkins of Virginia Beach, VA and Virginia K. Oxford, Lillian K. Setzer and Jerri K. Heltzer all of Lenoir. Mr. Kent graduated from Gamewell High School in 1954 and served in the U. S. Army in Colorado Springs, CO. On March 1, 1980, Mr. Kent founded Kent Travel Agency at 224 Thrift Street in Lenoir, NC. He operated Kent Travel Agency for 25 years where he served the travel needs of Lenoir and Caldwell County with pride. Mr. Kent was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school teacher and member of the adult choir. Mr. Kent was a member of Lenoir Rotary and former board member of Caldwell County Hospice. The family requests that memorials be given to Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood St., Lenoir, NC 28645 and College Avenue Baptist Church, 1201 College Avenue, Lenoir, NC 28645. A celebration of Mr. Kent̢۪s life will be held at College Avenue Baptist Church in Lenoir at 3:00 pm on Sunday, April 2, 2006. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir immediately following the service. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary of College Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday, April 1, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Robert Kent III, James Kent Jr., Horry Kent Jr., Michael Kent, Warner Watkins Jr., Timothy Barlow, Charles Babb and James Setzer will be serving as pallbearers.
