William Thomas Sutton

William Thomas Sutton Sr.,fisherman, hearts player, reader of mysteries, crossword puzzler, animal lover, avid bird (squirrel) watcher and music lover died on September 5, 2014 in Fayetteville, GA at the age of 86. He is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Gene Beddingfield Sutton. He dearly loved his children, Dale Sutton Niles of Fayetteville GA, William Thomas Sutton Jr. of Greensboro, NC, and Gray Beddingfield Sutton of Boone, NC; and he loved and adored his four grandchildren, Faith Rudisill Butler, Thomas Roland Niles, John Beddingfield Niles, and Holloman Anne Niles. He was born in Hertford, North Carolina in 1928.After high school, he joined the Marines and served for two years.He earned a Bachelor of Science in mining engineering from Virginia Tech in 1954. Upon graduating he worked as an engineer and designed bridges along the eastern shore. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lenoir where he taught Sunday school for over 20 years. He was also a member of Lenoir Rotary Club as well as the Cub Master for the Boy Scouts, He played the ukulele, sang in a quartet and even dressed up as a cheerleader when coerced by Gene as she dressed as a football player for Halloween. He had the ability to make a person feel at ease and was always assuring that things would be ok. He was know to a lot of people as Papa. The celebration of life for Bill Sutton will be held at First Baptist Church Chapel of Lenoir,NCat 304 Main Street NW on Friday, September 12th at 3PM conducted by Thomas Hinton. There is a reception with the family preceding the services in at 2 pm in the parlor at the First Baptist Church. There will be a private burial afterwards.
