William Theodore Smith

William T. Smith, age 82, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Caldwell UNC Healthcare. He was born in Caldwell County on April 22, 1939 to the late Zero Smith and Mary Turnmire Smith. He was married to Chetty Sue Smith of the residence for 63 years. William was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid fisherman and spent most of his working career as a boat mechanic. More than likely, if you owned a boat in Caldwell or Burke Counties within the last 45 years, he probably serviced it. He enjoyed his work and could be found working on a boat with a cigar in his mouth. William retired from Tri-County Marine. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Carroll and George Smith and his sister, Jeanette Carver. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Lori Houston and husband, Ronnie of Newton; grandson, Chad Ryan Coffey of the residence; his sister, Alma Bowman of Hickory; and numerous family members. The family will have a gathering of friends in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Saturday, September 18. 2021 from 6:00 until 7:30 PM.
