William Graham Nelson

Hickory, NC – Mr. William Graham Nelson, age 89, passed away at his residence on March 22, 2011. Mr. Nelson was born in Halifax County on August 25, 1921 to the late Finley and Katie Mae Langly Nelson. On March 26 he would have been married to his wife, Sarah Jewell Nelson for 63 years. He was a World War II Navy veteran and worked for more than 40 years at Hickory Manufacturing. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Nelson and sisters, Ethel David and Eula Gillam. Other than his wife he is survived by his sons and their wives; Darrell Nelson and JoAnne of Hickory, Dennis Nelson and Debbie of Lenoir, Terry Nelson and Beth of Ridgeway, VA; grandchildren, Kristy Joplin and husband, Reverend Justin Joplin of Richmond, VA, Bryon Nelson of South Korea, Carli Nelson of Eden, NC; great-grandchild, Justin Ray Joplin, Jr.; sisters, Victoria Douglas of Lenoir, Sybil Sherrill of Conover, Violet Hart of Welcome, NC, Carolyn Nelson of Granite Falls, and brothers, Marshall and James Nelson of Granite Falls. A celebration of Mr. Nelson’s life will be held at Harris Chapel Baptist Church on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 3:00. Pastor Josh Benge and Reverend Justin Joplin will officiate the service. Interment will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 prior to the service.
