Wilford R. Jackson

Lenoir, NC- Mr. Wilford R. ?Wick? Jackson was born on December 21, 1925 in Lincolnton, to C.E. and Daisy Coffey Jackson, who preceded him in death. Mr. Jackson died Saturday, April 12, 2008 in Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. He graduated from Lenoir High School and Georgia Institute of Technology and the U.S. Naval Line Officers School in Monterrey, California. He was privileged to be a pioneer in the space industry, working in the development of Atlas ICBM and Mercury and Gemini Space Programs. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force in World War II and of the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a life-time member of the Lenoir Optimist Club. He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Kathryn Robbins Jackson; his son Stephen L. Jackson of Ranger, TX; his son Phillip R. Jackson and wife Kathleen of Chatsworth, CA; granddaughter, Darci L. Gregorie of Calgary, Alberta; grandson, Andrew T. Jackson, of Lenoir and one great-granddaughter, Veronica Von Broecht of Calgary, Alberta. A Graveside service will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in Belleview Cemetery with Reverend Gurney Robbins officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, April 14, 2008 from 6 until 7:30 PM at Evans Funeral Service of Lenoir.
