W.E. Gene Schirmer

Lenoir, NC- Mr. William Eugene “Gene” Schirmer, age 85, of Lenoir, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Born on October 17, 1927 in Sullivan’s Island, SC, Gene was a son of the late W.E. and Sallie Mobley Schirmer. He was a member of Freedom Independent Baptist Church. Gene graduated from Piedmont Baptist College. He was a preacher and a boat and house painter together for 40 years. Gene was a veteran serving in the US Navy in World War II. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Anne Benfield Schirmer of the home. A private graveside service celebrating Gene’s life will be held at a later time in the Freedom Independent Baptist Church Cemetery.
