Lenoir, NC- Mr. Wayne “Cotton” Millard Melton, age 68, of Lenoir, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir. Born September 8, 1944 in Caldwell County, Mr. Melton was a son of the late John G. and Timmy Taylor Melton. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marsha Melton; 3 brothers, John Junior Melton, Bud Lowe and Gary Lowe and 2 sisters, Betty Melton Greene and Jeanette Small. Mr. Melton was of the Baptist Faith and worked for the City of Lenoir in the Water/Sewer Dept. He will be loved and missed and remembered as “one of a kind”. Everyone will best know him as the best car and junk man in the county. He is survived by his step-mother, Ella Mae Melton of Lenoir; his life-partner and friend, Sandy Hicks; two daughters, Deanna Gouge and husband Ted of Roan Mountain; Amanda Melton of Lenoir; his son, Jeff Melton and Renee Sain of Lenoir; his siblings; Bob Melton and wife Betty of Morganton; Bill Melton and wife Irene of SC; Steve Melton and wife Cynthia of Lenoir; Wilford Bean and wife Linda Sue of Gamewell; Ruby Lowe and Steve Lowe of Granite Falls; Lorene Lowe of Virginia; Grandchildren, Michael Coffey and wife Brittani, Jordan Coffey, Emily Hollar and husband Phillip, Jennifer Melton and fiancée Josh Judd, Noah Calix, Alex Hicks and Great-Grandchildren, Paisley Coffey, Phoenix Hollar and Kaitlyn Hicks. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends. A celebration of Mr. Melton’s life will be held 6:00 PM Saturday, September 7, 2013 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Burl Greer officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 until 6:00 PM.
