Virginia Sturgill Pope

Lenoir, NC-  Mrs. Virginia Garland Sturgill Pope, age 87, of Lenoir, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. Born on January 23, 1923 in Virginia, Virginia was the daughter of the late Thomas and Emma Barnett Sturgill. Virginia was a homemaker and a devoted member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Lee Pope; two sons, Roddy Pope and Max Pope; and a daughter, Patty Pope Crump. Surviving are a daughter and son in law, Peggy and Asial Barlow; two sons, Gary and Judy Pope of Lenoir, and Dale and Dee Pope of Mississippi; a daughter in law, Diane Pope of Tennessee; a special niece, Polly Craig; she is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and children that lovingly knew her as Granny. A celebration of Virginia’ s life will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Jim Hamby officiating. Interment will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Her grandsons will be serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Memorials can be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative care at 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
