Virginia ?Joan? Nelson Triplett went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Carolina Oaks Enhanced Care Center after an extended illness. Joan was born in Lenoir on February 16, 1934 to the late James E. ?Dick? Nelson and his wife Wilma Mae ?Bill? Holloway Nelson. She was also pre-deceased by her brother Eddie Nelson of Winston Salem and a newborn son Richard Terrence Triplett. Her beloved husband of 56 years and love of her life, H. Tommy Triplett, died on August 30, 2008. Joan was a homemaker and a member of College Avenue Baptist Church. She was a spelling bee champion in her youth and an avid reader. She was a quiet lady who always looked impeccable. She enjoyed crafts, NASCAR (especially #28 Freddie Lorenzen), drinking coffee, and watching TV shows like CNN. She was as reserved our Father was outgoing, but this marriage of opposites was a long and happy one. Mama loved our Daddy to the end and is now with him in heaven. She is survived by her daughter Connie Willis of Hickory, son Dale Triplett of Lenoir, and three granddaughters, Holly Chester and Grace Triplett of Lenoir and Scottie Chester of Fallston. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Hannah Sanders and Gavin Perkins of Lenoir, two aunts Irene Cable of Winter Haven Florida and Mildred Colvard of Hudson, and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:30pm to 3pm Sunday, Jan 10th, at Evans Funeral Service with the funeral following in the chapel with Reverend David Everett officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street NW, Lenoir NC 28645.
