Mrs. Virginia Dare Payne Johnson, age 93, of Lenoir passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir. Born February 17, 1925 in Watauga County, Virginia was a daughter of the late Kenneth and Lizzie Pennell Payne.Virginia enjoyed doing crafts.She also enjoyed camping and working in her flower garden.She was a member of the Cajah’s Mountain Baptist Church.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Paul James Johnson; a sister, Louise Nelson. Survivors include her daughter, Judy Woods of Lenoir; two step daughters, Barbara Absher (husband Tony) and Tammy White (husband Rod); a step son, Reverend James Paul Johnson (wife Debbie); Five grandchildren, Shane Absher, Caleb White, Jim Woods, Ethan Johnson, Renea Grigg and Brandy Johnson Hicks; Four great grandchildren, Ryleigh Hicks, Abbi Griffin (husband Phil), Kaitlyn Handy Burgess (husband Nick) and Olivia Woods; Two Great Great Grandchildren, Sadie Burgess and Elli Griffin; Virginia is also survived by numerous other relatives. A celebration of Virginia’s life will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Doug Woody and Scott Winters officiating.Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
