Violet Louise Walsh

Violet Louise Walsh, 93, of Hickory, formerly of Lenoir, passed away at Carolina Caring in Newton and entered her heavenly home on Friday, May 7, 2021. She was born on July 17, 1927 in Ashe County, NC to the late Charlie and Beulah Bare Vannoy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hugh “Jack” Walsh Sr.; sons, Roy Hugh Walsh Jr. and Jerry Lee Walsh; brothers, J.V. “Buddy” Vannoy and Charles Leon Vannoy. Violet was an avid gardener, who enjoyed flowers and bird watching. Her favorite bird was the cardinal. She was a homemaker and was proud to have raised and loved her six children. The joy in her later years were her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She successfully completed her GED late in life, an accomplishment that both she and her family were proud of. A member of the Zacks Fork Baptist Church, she loved to sing in the choir and special ensembles, taught Sunday School and served many ministries there for years. She also faithfully attended Mountain View Baptist Church after her move to Hickory, following the death of her loving husband in 2009.She loved attending the Senior Ladies Sunday school class and regularly supported several charitable and religious missions. Those left to cherish her memory include her loving daughters, Donna Thornburg of Hickory and Cathy Grant and husband James of Hickory; youngest sons, Charles T Walsh and wife Merry Janeof Casper, Wyoming and Timothy J Walsh of Hickory; ten grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. A private funeral service and celebration of life for the family to honor Violet will be held at Evans Funeral Service in Lenoir on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 with Rev. Todd Smith and Pastor Ronnie Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. Lie in state will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 2:00PM – 4:00PM at Evans Funeral Service for public viewing.
