Baton, NC- Mrs. Verna Leola Cannon Beane, age 75, of Baton, died Friday, March 2, 2007 at College Pines Nursing Center in Valdese. Born August 4, 1931 in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late William Pinkney and Emeline Smith Cannon and the wife of Guy Carroll Beane of the home. Mrs. Beane, a homemaker, was a member of Baton United Methodist Church. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Pinkney Cannon and Lester Lee Cannon and one sister, Sadie Jane Cannon. Other than her husband, she is survived her son, Michael ?Mike? Carroll Beane of Baton; 4 brothers, James Clarence ?Jack? Cannon, Ralph James ?Jim? Cannon, Ivey Cannon and Phillip Cannon all of Granite Falls; 4 sisters, Edith Lail, Effie Dishman both of Granite Falls; Ana Lea Duncan of Winston-Salem and Rebecca Sigmon of Hudson and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday, March 5, 2007 at Baton United Methodist Church with Reverend Lawrence ?Larry? Staples, Reverend John Herold and Reverend Benjamin Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home of her brother, James Cannon, 5337 Cannon Dr., Granite Falls on Sunday from 2 until 4 PM.
