Velma Greene Phelps

Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Velma ?Nana? Greene Phelps, age 78, of Lenoir, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, November 29, 2007. Born September 1, 1929 in Wilkes County, Mrs. Phelps was a daughter of the late Turner and Dulce Younce Greene and the wife of Edgar L. Phelps of the home. Mrs. Phelps was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She always had a beautiful smile for everyone she met. She was a wonderful example of a true Christian and enjoyed sharing the love of Jesus with all. Her favorite thing was to be in church choir and sing. So many lives were touched by her hugs, kisses and precious words. She has been ?Nana? to so many over the years. We will all miss our loving Mother and ?Nana?. Other than her husband she is survived by 2 sons, Tommy Phelps and wife Martha of Boone; Keith Phelps and wife Bea of Lenoir; 5 daughters, Lois Phelps, Darlene Hall and husband Ray; Sarah Bryant and husband George; and Dawn Phelps all of Lenoir; Marjorie Elkins and husband Gerald of Burnsville; one brother, David Greene of Morganton; 2 sisters, Virginia Spears and Vandella Adams, both of Lenoir; one half-brother, Danny Greene of Wilkesboro; three half-sisters, Mary Ellen Blankenship and Georgia Greene, both of Wilkesboro, Joyce Osborne of Taylorsville; 10 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bobby Greene; sister, Viola Greene; 2 half-brothers, Buette and Hullette Greene; one Great-Grandson, Nathan Plunk and her Aunt Dessie Bobbie Greene. A celebration of Mrs. Phelps? life will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 1, 2007 at Pisgah Baptist Church with Reverend Russell Cook and Reverend Horace Minton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Pisgah Baptist Church on Saturday from 1 until 2 PM, one hour prior to the service. Pallbearers will be: Steve Baker, Jason Phelps, Andrew Phelps, Ray Hall, George Bryant and Gerald Elkins.
