Hudson – Mrs. Toye Cody Allen, age 90, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at Shaire Center. She was born in Caldwell County on February 20, 1932 to the late Adam and Cordell Cody. Mrs. Allen and been a long time and active member of the Lenoir Women’s Club where she served in many of the committees. Her special interest was in education and the Scholarship committee where she had served 42 years. She was also a member of the Altrusa Club, Caldwell County Historical Society, and the Republican Women’s Club. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, collecting antiques and most of all spending time with grand and great-grandchildren. She and her late husband taught at Hudson High School in the 1960’s. In the 1970’s during the Art and Craft movement, they opened the House of Arts and Crafts in Caldwell County, which became the largest in the Southeast. Many of their customers became artisans in their special craft and were able to sell their handicrafts in many parts of the country. She always said that God gave her the talent in art and business to help others and she felt that was her special calling. She was a member of Lower Creek Baptist Church where she enjoyed the love among her Sunday School Class and women on mission group. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Allen and her son, Christopher Keith Allen. Mrs. Allen is survived by her daughter, Dawn Sullivan and husband, Jim; grandchildren, James Sullivan and wife, Katie; Joseph Sullivan and wife, Judith; Anna Sullivan Overby and husband, Nick; John Sullivan and wife, Deidre; Roxy Allen Everette and husband, Dave; Sierra Allen Layhew and husband, Phillip; and Elizabeth Allen; 22 great- grandchildren; and numerous other family members. A memorial service celebrating Mrs. Allen’s life will be held in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11:00 AM. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:30 prior to the service.
