Tony Wayne Setzer

Chief Tony Wayne Setzer’s promised hope was fulfilled when he entered the presence of Jesus on April 16th, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born January 22nd, 1947, to the late Mary Adelaide Setzer and Stanfred Shell Setzer. He was also preceded in death by a baby brother, William Douglas; a nephew, Andrew James Setzer; and his grandfather, William McGruder Setzer. Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 59 years, Marlene Edmisten Setzer; his three daughters, Amy Tuttle (Caroll), Angie White (Tip), and Beth Miller (David); six beloved grandchildren, Trevor White (Sierra), Emma Marlene Reuscher (Josh), Tony Naaman Miller (Rachel), Isaac Tuttle (Makayla), Tanner White (Heather) and Cory Miller; three great grandchildren, Evie White, Titus White, and Theophilus Tuttle; sister, Brenda Warren (Jeff); brother, Fred Setzer (Ruth); nieces, Alynn Price and Mary Ann Setzer; nephews, Scott Warren, Mark Edmisten, and Kris Edmisten.

Revered and respected for his leadership, knowledge, and high standards by the fire service, Tony was affectionately nicknamed “Diamondhead” by his fellow firefighters because of his unwavering opinions. Following 31 years as a Lenoir Firefighter, he worked approximately 20 years for Shurtape /Shuford Yarns, in their safety division. He was known as “GiGi” (Guy Guy) to his grandchildren, who adore him. His steadfast faith in Jesus led him to many roles in the church and left a profound effect on those who observed his dedication and tireless work ethic. His legacy will never be forgotten.

A Celebration of Tony’s life will be held on Saturday, April 19th, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Lower Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Burns officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, in the fellowship hall.

The family would like to send special thanks to Amorem’s nurses, CNAs and social workers who were a Godsend through the transitioning process. Any memorial contributions may be sent to the Hudson Location at 526 Pine Mountain Rd., Hudson, NC 28638.
