Tom Harvey Barrier

Tom Harvey Barrier, Jr., 86, of Granite Falls passed away on April 11, 2022. Tom was born in McDowell County on June 9, 1935 to the late Tom Barrier, Sr. and Pearl Barrier. He was married for 56 years to Linda Barrier. Tom enjoyed spending time fishing and gardening. He loved and wrote music and playing instruments such as: guitar, mandolin, and piano. Tom was known to be an extraordinary wood craftsman; including restoring furniture for many people at his home repair shop. Tom retired from Century Furniture after 30 years of employment. Tom was an Army veteran. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his siblings: Alvin Barrier, Pat Barrier, Wayne Barrier, and Shirley Campbell. In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children: Nancy Abernathy (David), Lora Compton (Doug), Tommy Barrier (Randa) and Michael Barrier (Jackie). He is survived by his grandchildren: Lucas Simmons, Adam Abernathy, Elijah Setzer and Isaiah Barrier. He leaves behind his siblings: Ruth Stamey, Sue Wiley, Linda Pennington and Vena Bennett. Tom is survived by his sisters-in-law Carolyn Brown and Judy Holsclaw and his brother-in-law Johnie Freeman. The family will hold a private service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Tom’s honor be made to Dudley Shoals Baptist Church or Trinity Village of Hickory.
