Tim L. Greene, age 80, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at his residence. He was born in May 1943 in an old two-story unpainted farmhouse in Union Mills in Rutherford County, North Carolina. He is preceded in death by his mother Etta "Peggy" Pritchard Greene, his father Lincoln Greene, and his brother Kenneth R. Greene. He is survived by his wife Theresa "Bitsy" Greene, the family they built together, and his sister Linda Childers.
After finishing high school, Tim spent a year in Nashville, Tennessee attending a welding school, where he learned a trade, he enjoyed and spent the next 60 years using those skills. He worked at Newton Transportation for 45 years, but Tim didn't fully retire until his 80th birthday--he had a welding garage at home and gained a reputation far and wide for helping with all sorts of metal work. He also used his gifts to create amazing art in metalwork and woodwork. You could often find him building small-scale models of construction equipment by carving and painting each piece by hand. His collection was featured in The Lenoir News Topic a few years ago and his models were a permanent attraction in his shop.
Tim loved nothing more than his family, his friends, and his church. Tim and Bitsy raised three children, Leslie, Scott, and Amy, in the house that Tim built by hand over 50 years ago. They gained a daughter-in-law, Jenny, and son-in-law, Earl, over the years and were blessed with five grandchildren--Caroline, Meredith, Erin, Lindsey, and Layla. Tim also made many wonderful friends over the decades. Both he and his family are grateful to everyone who stopped by this summer as his health worsened. He took immeasurable comfort from the presence of his community and his faith. Tim and Bitsy were lifelong, devoted members of Gamewell Methodist Church in Lenoir, North Carolina.
Tim lived a full life and enjoyed the simple things. He always had a book going--sometimes several at a time. His love of reading and learning made him an absolute Jeopardy whiz. He spent many hours outside tending his garden and feeding the neighborhood birds. Tim and Bitsy took many trips with Christian Tours and explored the East Coast and Canada together. He especially loved visiting Amish country, Civil War historical sites, and seeing plays.
His family and friends are heartbroken at Tim's passing. They will always remember his strength, tenacity, and selflessness. To celebrate his life, please consider supporting a cause close to his heart through a donation to Foothills Canine Rescue of Caldwell County. In Tim's words, please be careful and take care of yourselves.
