Hudson, NC- Mr. Ted Channing Pipes, Sr., age 84, of Lenoir, died Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Gateway Nursing Center. Born July 9, 1927 in Caldwell County, Mr. Pipes was a son of the late William Lloyd and Nancy Robbins Pipes and the husband of the late Elizabeth “Lib” Anne Wilson Pipes. Other than his wife and parents, Mr. Pipes is preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Elizabeth Pipes, one sister, Arminta Holden and 3 brothers, Charles Pipes, Victor Pipes and Ira Pipes. Mr. Pipes was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church. He was retired from Blue Ridge Electric where he worked as a printer.  He had served in the US Army, was a member of the American Legion and Woodmen of the World. He is survived by two sons; Richard Wilson Pipes and wife Susan of Lenoir, Ted Channing “Chan” Pipes, Jr. of West Jefferson; and four Grandchildren, Hannah Pipes, Hunter Pipes, Jesse Pipes and Chelsea Pipes Smith and husband Wayne. A celebration of Mr. Pipes’ life will be held 6:00 PM Thursday, September 8, 2011 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Chuck Brawley and Reverend David Everett officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 PM prior to the service at Evans Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
