Tate Henry Pope

T.H. Pope, Jr. Granite Falls, NC – Mr. Tate Henry “T.H.” Pope, Jr., died on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Lenoir HealthCare Nursing Center. He was born in Catawba County on August 21, 1925 to the late Tate Henry Pope, Sr. and Sarah Johnson Pope and the husband of the late Mrs. Irene Doris Pope. Other than his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Pope Russell. Mr. Pope was a veteran of the United States Navy and an active member of Dry Ponds Baptist Church where he taught and directed the Royal Ambassadors (R.A.’s) for ten years; was a member and Sunday School Teacher of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class. He is survived by his three children, Kathy Pope Hamby and husband, Tony; Tim Pope and wife, Lenita; Jeff Pope and wife, Susan, all of Granite Falls; two brothers, Dean Pope; Jerry T. Pope and wife, Betty, all of Granite Falls; 6 grandchildren, Michelle Hamby Duncan and husband, Kurt, Clint Hamby and wife, Alice; Jessica Pope Bowman and husband, Josh; Audrey Pope, Ethan Pope and Austin Pope, and one great-grandchild, Haley Duncan. A celebration of Mr. Pope’s life will be held at Dry Ponds Baptist Church on Friday, August 31, 2012 at 4:00 PM with Dr. Rick Crouse and Mr. Josh Dellinger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 prior to the service at the church. Memorials can be made to the Baptist Men and R.A.’s at Dry Ponds Baptist Church, 5235 Union Church Road, Granite Falls, NC 28630.
