Sylvia Jean Townsend

Sylvia Jean Smith Townsend, 69, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2020 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care of Hudson, NC. Sylvia was born October 2, 1950 in Morganton, NC to Paul McKinley Smith and Mary Eva McDaniel Pendley. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Smith; her loving husband, James Townsend; and her four sisters. Sylvia is survived by her mother Mary Pendley; her one son, Bruce Nations and her daughter, Khrystal Nations. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Chelsea Greene, Erika Holden, Cameron Herndon, Chelsea Shambley, and Jamen Withworth. Additional survivors include three brothers, three sisters, and four great-grandchildren. Sylvia leaves behind many other loved ones who considered her their “MeeMaw.” Sylvia was a member of Grandview Park Baptist Church of Lenoir, where there will be a Celebration of Life held on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at 6:30. Preacher Raymond Spann will be officiating the service. The family will receive guests at 6:00 pm until 6:30 pm at the church. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Hence forth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness.” – 2 Timothy 4:7 The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care for their service and loving care of Sylvia.
