Susan Greene Champion

Susan Greene Champion, age 66, of Connelly Springs, NC, unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 27, 2022, after a 3-year battle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. She was born October 15, 1955 in Caldwell County to the late Tommy Tucker Greene and Mary Coffey Greene. Susan graduated from Gamewell-Collettsville High School and Caldwell Community College. Susan worked at Crowell’s in Lenior during her high school years. After college Susan worked at BLT Auto Parts with her father and Uncle Buster Greene. After marrying her husband, Susan moved to Charlotte, NC and worked as an Office Manager at the Center for Behavioral Medicine while Miles was finishing college. Susan was a long time 4-H leader in Caldwell and Catawba counties. Susan dreamed of being a mommy her whole life. After enduring two miscarriages she and Miles were finally introduced to adoption and after a long two and a half years they finally got to meet 5-week-old Chelsea, who would be their pride and joy. Susan chose to be a stay-at-home mom after adopting Chelsea and stayed very involved in her life, school, and sports. Susan volunteered many hours reading with students at Viewmont Elementary. When Chelsea entered marching band at Hickory High, Susan was a very devoted “band parent.” Susan always backed Miles in coaching most of Chelsea’s athletic teams. Susan very much loved to travel with her family and was the happiest at places like Cades Cove, TN and the Outer Banks of NC. Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Aubrey Miles Champion, Jr of the home; one daughter, Chelsea Champion Huffman and husband Andy Huffman of Sawmills; and a large extended family. Funeral services will at 11am on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Evans Funeral Home of Lenoir, NC. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11am prior to the funeral service at Evans Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org/research.
