Sue Martin

Sue P. Martin passed away early in the morning of November 11, surrounded by her family and covered by her strong faith in Jesus Christ, after a battle with cancer. Sue was born in Lenoir, NC on June 16, 1949, to Paul and Sally Pritchard.She graduated from Hudson High School in 1967. Shortly after graduation, she began a career in retail, working in and managing Mack’s department store in downtown Lenoir.In 1987 she began working with the Caldwell County County Schools system with the Title I program, helping elementary students learn to read.She worked at Valmead Elementary School.Later, she began teaching computer skills, and she transferred to Hudson Elementary School.She gained precious friends in the education field, and she impacted many young lives as a teacher.She retired from education in 2013. Sue was married to Gary Martin, and she has two sons, Jeff and Eric.She gained two daughters, Dawn and Monica, when both of her sons married their high school sweethearts. Her five grandchildren, Madalyn, Georganna, Lauren, Olivia, and Max were truly the loves of her life. After her retirement, Sue spent most of her time with her grandchildren, attending their school events, picking them up from school, making dinner for them, and doing whatever they asked of her.She also spent many hours a day caring for her mother, Sally. Sue was “Maw Maw T” to many children at church as well as the children that her grandchildren babysit.Her granddaughters brought the little ones under their care to “Maw Maw’s house” daily, because she always embraced them and welcomed them as she did her own grandchildren. She loved watching her grandson, Max, play baseball, and she especially enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves play.She attended a game this summer with her family. Those that knew Sue would attest to her devotion to her faith and to her family.She was a member of Calvary Advent Christian Church, where she served many years as church Treasurer as well as on the church Board.She raised her family in church, and was always proud that her family (mother, sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren) sat with her each Sunday to hear the Word.Her faith will live on through them. Sue is preceded in death by her father, Paul Pritchard.She is survived by her mother, Sally Pritchard, her husband, Gary, her sons, Jeff and Eric and their wives Dawn and Monica, and her five grandchildren, Madalyn, Georganna, Lauren, Olivia, and Max.She is also survived by one sister, Regina Houk, and one brother, David Pritchard, both of Lenoir. A celebration of Sue’s life will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at 2:00 PM at the Calvary Advent Christian Church with Pastor Jim Lee officiating.Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Lenoir. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Evans Funeral Service from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.evansfuneralservice.com.
