Steve Lester Griffin

Morganton- Mr. Steven “Steve” Lester Griffin, age 71, of Morganton, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at GraceHospital in Morganton.Born June 19, 1944 in Caldwell County, he was a son of the late Lester Daniel and Bessie West Griffin and the husband of Mrs. Nelda Estes Griffin with whom they had shared 40 wonderful years of marriage. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Griffin and granddaughter, Jordan Richmond. Mr. Griffin was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitnel where he was director of the Food Ministry.Church members will remember his dedication and commitment to this ministry.He was also a driver of the van for the senior adults.He had retired after 25 years with Harris Teeter and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Steve will most likely be remembered for being patient, loving and kind.He was a wonderful friend and was always busy, enjoying God’s beauty of the outdoors. Other than his wife Nelda, he is survived by a son, Stephen Buss of Hildebran; daughter, Sonia Richmond of Rhodhiss; eight siblings, Dan Griffin and wife Ann of Cocoa, FL; Thomas Griffin and wife Peggy of Charlotte; Betty McNeil and husband Bill of Lenoir; Carolyn Wilson and husband Owen, Jr. of Lenoir; Linda Ham of Hamlet; Sarah Locke and husband Roland of Connelly Springs; Janice Triplett and husband Bobby of Lenoir; Dwayne Griffin and wife Becky of Titusville, FL; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family will be conducting a memorial service on Friday, September 4, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Whitnel with Reverend Stuart White and Reverend Steve Hedgecock officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be made to The Food Ministry of First Baptist Church of Whitnel, 1201 Connelly Springs Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
