Hickory, NC- Mrs. Shirley Jolene ?Jo? Miller Cooper, age 81, of Hickory, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Palliative CareCenter and Hospice of Catawba Valley in Newton. Born November 19, 1928 in Caldwell County, Mrs. Cooper was a daughter of the late Reverend Lawrence A and Agnes Baker Miller and the wife of the late Fred H. Cooper, Jr. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence B. Miller and two sisters, Dare Brittain and Gwendolyn Honeycutt. Mrs. Cooper was a retired executive secretary for an Orlando, Florida engineering firm where she worked for over 20 years. She loved being a Mother to her two sons and daughter -in-law and Grandmother to her five grandchildren. Mrs. Cooper felt especially blessed to have had the opportunity to help her son Chip raise her granddaughter, Holly, while they lived together in Orlando. She played bridge, loved to read and enjoyed playing the piano. She is survived by two sons, Fred ?Chip? H. Cooper, III of Orlando, FL; Joe Cooper and wife Cindi of Westerville, OH; one sister, Olivia Cooke of Lenoir; two brothers, Boyd Miller and wife Janice of Swansboro; Dean Miller and wife Sandra of Hudson; and 5 grandchildren, Christi Cooper, Jeff Cooper, Jason Cooper, Brett Cooper and Holley Cooper. A celebration of Mrs. Cooper?s life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 19, 2010 in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Reverend Carl Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at Evans Funeral Service.
