Lenoir– Mrs. Shirley Watson Kirby, age 73, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, August 17, 2015 at her residence after a lengthy illness. She was born in Caldwell County on April 10, 1942 to the late Willard M. Watson and Leatha Hollar Watson. She was married to Dillard “Dee” Kirby for 55 years. Mrs. Kirby graduated from Happy Valley High School. She was a retired cosmetologist and was an active member of Community Baptist Church until she became unable to attend. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers Bill, Paul and Raymond Watson; and her sisters, Gladys Taylor and Inez Andrews. Other than her husband, Dee, Mrs. Kirby is survived by her daughter, Mitzi Kirby Carlton; son, Daniel Kirby; granddaughter, Melody Carlton; and sister, Linda Helton and husband, Bill of Lenoir. A celebration of Mrs. Kirby’s life will be held at Community Baptist Church on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Waitsel Beard and Pastor Eddie Richards officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 12:00 prior to the service.
