Shirley Jean Gilbert

Mrs. Shirley Jean Shatley Gilbert, age 78, of Lenoir passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Caldwell UNC Healthcare. Born September 18, 1940 in Caldwell county, Shirley was a daughter of the late William Andrew and Bessie Setzer Shatley.She was Baptist by faith and a member of Worship Point Baptist Church, but had been attending Closer Walk Baptist Church.Shirley enjoyed singing at her church.Shirley was a seamstress and retired from Grand Manor Furniture after 30 plus years of service.In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Shew; four brothers, Bill Shatley, Paul Shatley, Jacob Shatley and Bueford Shatley. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Clyde “Jack” Gilbert; a daughter, Tammy Gilbert Day (husband Larry) of Lenoir; a son, Tim Gilbert of Lenoir; two grandchildren, Shanna Gilbert Hamby (husband Jason) and Haily Snyder both of Lenoir; two great grandchildren, Dalton Gilbert and Ashley Hamby; two sisters, Lola Everhardt and Nancy Deal; two brothers, Sam Shatley and Larry Shatley; she is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the Worship Point Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Pastor Junior Hamby and Pastor Lane Hamby officiating.Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery.Serving as pallbearers will be Dalton Gilbert, Joe Poarch, Ricky Eller, Jake Shatley, Thomas Fleming, Noah Coonse, Jason Hamby and Bradley Miller. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
