Barnwell, SC- Mr. Serafin Salgado, age 72, died Friday afternoon, August 22, 2008, at the home of his daughter in Lenoir, NC. Born March 12, 1936 in Meade, West Virginia, Mr. Salgado was a son of the late Serafin and Gracie Belle Garretson Salgado and the husband of Joanna Marie Wink Salgado. Mr. Salgado was an E-8 retiree of the U.S. Army where he served from 1954 until 1976. He was a Vietnam veteran and a member of the VFW and the American Legion. From 1976 until 1986 he worked for NC Granite Corporation in Mt. Airy, NC. From 1986 until 1994 he was employed with Trapp Rock in Leesburg, VA and 1995 until 2001 the Sara Lee Sock Company in Barnwell, SC. Mr. Salgado was a member of Holy Apostles Episcopal Church in Barnwell, SC where he was very active. Other than his wife, he is survived by four children, Claudia Salgado of Lenoir; Patricia Salgado of Ashburn, VA; Grace Salgado Albertson and husband Andy of High Point, NC and Serafin Salgado, II of Lenoir; 10 grandchildren, Tara Salgado and Kathryn Salgado, both of Ashburn, VA; Janine Salgado of Kastl, Germany; Jessica Norman and Jennifer Norman, both of Lenoir; Paul Barbry and Alex Barbry, both of High Point, NC; Eileen Salgado and Lucy Salgado, both of Kastl, Germany; Drew Albertson of High Point and one great-grandchild, Sasha Salgado of Kastl, Germany. He is also survived by one brother, Joe Salgado and wife Mary Ann of Dundalk, MD; 7 sisters, Delphina Salgado Theimer and husband Alan of Sunset Beach, NC; Lupe Salgado Dickerson and husband Bill of Mt. Airy, NC; Lolita Salgado Whitaker of Sunset Beach, NC; Margaret Salgado McMillian and husband Doug of Eden, NC; Samona Hodges Creasey of Mt. Airy, NC; Ila Hodges Cecil and husband Jay of Mt. Airy, NC; Rebecca Hodges Vipperman and husband Teddy of Mt. Airy, NC and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Frank (Judy) Salgado of Mt. Airy, NC. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Walter Hodges and one brother, Frank Salgado. A celebration of Mr. Salgado?s life will be held Thursday, August 28, 2008 at Noon at Holy Apostles Episcopal Church in Barnwell, SC with Reverend Jerry DeBose officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the parish hall of the church.
