Ruth Price Laws

Morganton, NC- Mrs. Ruth Price Laws, age 80, passed away Friday, February 28, 2014 at her home. Born December 1, 1933 in Caldwell County, Mrs. Laws was a daughter of the late Daniel Boone Price and Mrs. Bessie Rea Summerow Price of Lenoir. She was the wife of the late Johnny Alfred Laws. Mrs. Laws was a very active member of Walking By Faith Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and Church Secretary. She was a very devoted Christian lady who was well respected in her community. She will always be remembered for her crafts, including crochet, woodworking and especially her wonderful cakes. Other than her father and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Alfred Laws; a daughter, Margaret Ann Laws Shatley and a brother, Joseph Price. Surviving other than her mother are six children, Steven Laws and wife Linda of Morganton; Linda Barrier and husband Charles of Morganton; David Laws of Lenoir; Brenda Laws of Lenoir; Glenda Laws of Vale and Peggy Henson of Lenoir. She is also survived by one sister, Shirley Price of Lenoir; 17 Grandchildren and 27 Great-Grandchildren. A celebration of Mrs. Laws̢۪ life will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at Walking By Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Marvin Ford and Pastor Richard Shew officiating. Burial will follow in the Celia Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be: Tommy Shatley, John Ross Shatley, Don Shatley, Jr., Rocky Penley, Charles Barrier and Charlie Anthony. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Tommy Laws and Terry Earp. The family will be gathering at the home of Jennifer Penley, 1264 Alanda Drive, Lenoir, NC. The family respectfully requests memorials be made to Walking By Faith Baptist Church, Playmore Beach Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
