Russell Colvard

June 25, 1930 — September 14, 2022

Russell E. Colvard, Jr., passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Caldwell County on June 25, 1930 to the late Russell Colvard, Sr. and Irene McCall Colvard. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Greene Colvard. Russell was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving with the 34th Air Rescue Squadron in Okinawa, Japan. He was a long-time, active member of First Baptist Church Hudson, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and custodian. He was also involved in many other ministry activities throughout the church and community. Russell was a talented wood worker, avid lover of horses and enjoyed flying. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Lynn Colvard and great-granddaughter, Jacqueline Colvard. Other than his wife, Russell is survived by his children, Steven Colvard and wife, Kim of Mint Hill, NC; Douglas Colvard and wife, Lisa of Hudson; Lori Propst and husband, Joe of Newton, NC; grandchildren, Joshua Colvard and wife, Lucy; Alicia Gately and husband, Charles; Michael Propst and fiancée, Carly Lofton; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Wyatt, Lily and Josephine; brothers, Mack Colvard and Tony Colvard; his sister, Rachel Duncan; and numerous other family members. A celebration of Russell’s life will be held at First Baptist Church Hudson on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Mack Jarvis and Dr. Wade Dellinger officiating. Interment will immediately follow the service at Sardis Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Air Force.
