Lenoir, NC- Mr. Rufus Henry Summerlin, Jr., of Lenoir, passed away on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care in Hudson. Born January 16, 1954 in Caldwell County, Rufus was a son of the late Rufus Henry and Carlene Eva Storey Summerlin. He was Baptist by faith and was a retired screen printer and graphic artist. He will be remembered by his family and friends as “something elseâ€. He owned “Summerlin Brothers’ Mustang†with his older brother Tommy. He was also in the Crankin Brothers Band with the late Mike Courtner and Mark Pearson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Jeanette “Jean†Summerlin and Brenda Summerlin Tickle; his brother, William Thomas “Tommy†Summerlin. Survivors include his nieces, Heather Gragg, Emily Thomas and Maggie Thomas; a nephew, Bryan Tickle; his pet dog, Fred; 15 great nieces and nephews, and many friends. A memorial service celebrating Rufus’ life will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:30 Pm in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Service with Pastor Jim Hamby officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials are made to Caldwell Hospice & Palliative Care at 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
