Lenoir, NC- Mrs. Ruby Small Hollar, age 84, a loving wife and mother, died Thursday, March 6, 2008 in Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care. Born June 23, 1923 in Bassett, VA, Mrs. Hollar was a daughter of the late Fred and Nellie Hendrix Small and the wife of the late Alfred H. Hollar. Mrs. Hollar was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a member of Meadowbrook Baptist Church where she was a charter member and a Sunday school teacher. She was retired as cafeteria manager with the East Harper School. Survivors include two daughters, Judith Mullis and husband Charles; Joan H. Brookshire; three sons, Steven Hollar and wife Patricia; Kenneth Hollar and wife Kay, Bruce Hollar; one brother, A.B. Small; one sister, Beulah Coffey, all of Lenoir, 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Other than her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Fred, Carroll and John Small and one sister, Hazel Annas. Graveside services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Reverend Roger Beck officiating. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Hollar's residence.
