Roy Pope Sr., age 67, Passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2022. Roy was born May 04, 1955 in Caldwell County to the late Victor and Junior (Branch) Pope. He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra (Beach) Pope. The family left to carry his memory are his three children Ray Pope, Wade Pope, wife Jinky, and Tyler Pope, three grandchildren Jeric, Brackson, and Raven Pope. Brothers Victor Pope, John Pope, wife Joan, David Pope, wife Bea, Cleve Pope, wife Norma Jean, Sister Annette Johnson. Sister-in-law Sylvia and husband Danny Sides.
Roy was beloved by his community and was always willing to help. He found great joy in driving around and talking with people. His laughter boomed and showed his cheerful nature. A talented mechanic, he practiced his craft for over 40 years. He was a well-respected businessman, who always strove to do all he could to help people. He worked tirelessly to ensure people got the best work he was able to provide. His work allowed him to make many friends and was a rock for so many. They in turn supported him and praised his work. He took great pride in this, and he was humbled by it. The community had voted him the best mechanic in the county many times. These accolades were cherished by him as a sign of the quality of his work and the good that he was able to do for others. He had a passion for people and wished to see them in a better state and spirit after he had helped them. In recent years, he had retired but continued helping people anyway he could. He will be sorely missed, but it gives us peace knowing that he has found his own with his best friend and wife of 46 years Debra.
The family will receive friends and family at Crest View Baptist Church on Saturday, December 17 th from 12:00 until 3:00 p.m. and the family will have a private burial service pastored by Mark Annas.
My father has oil
In his veins
His engine roaring
Through town
Scratched paint
Scarring his arms
Laughter creating
A backfire of coughs
Now it’s running
Smooth again
Screaming down
The streets
Wide open
