Rondy 'Ray' Taylor

Lenoir- Mr. Rondy “Ray” Taylor, age 73, of Lenoir, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir. Born January 15, 1943 in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Jesse Frank and Mary Winebarger Taylor and the husband of Mrs. Hilda Norris Taylor to whom they shared over 50 years of marriage. Ray was the owner/operator of The Carpet Shop which he founded in 1968. He was of the Baptist faith, had served in the National Guard and an avid golfer and was a longtime member of the Lenoir Golf Course where he considered the “Backroom Gang” his second family. Although he worked hard and played a lot of golf, his real love was his family and especially his Grandkids. Other than his wife Hilda, he is survived by his daughter, Monica Hoover and husband Thomas of Lenoir; their children Bradley Thomas Hoover and girlfriend Katie of Lenoir; Marcus Ray Hoover of Charlotte; Taylor Marie Hoover of Charlotte; three brothers, Charles Taylor and wife Beryl of Lenoir; Eugene Taylor and wife Darlene of Lenoir; Bill Taylor and wife Mary of Hudson; two sisters, Winna Storie and husband Carl of Lenoir and Lou Ellen Jones and husband Jim of Boone. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. A celebration of Mr. Taylor’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at West Lenoir Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Safriet and Reverend John Yeager officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00, one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be: Grandsons, Bradley Hoover & Marcus Hoover and Nephews, Jeff Taylor, Charles Taylor, Jr., Tim Martin, Chris Martin, Brian Taylor, Mike Norris and Mike Chester. Honorary Pallbearers will be “The Backroom Gang” from Lenoir Golf Club. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
