Rodney Hayes Greene

Lenoir, NC ? Mr. Rodney "Hayes" Greene, age 84, of Lenoir, died Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Born March 4, 1927 in Caldwell County, Mr. Greene was the son of the late Raymond Hayes and Leona Campbell Greene and the husband of the late Virginia Dell Bradshaw Greene. Other than his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Greene Spears. Mr. Greene was a retired bookkeeper for North Carolina working with the Caldwell County Schools. He was a former volunteer fireman with the Valmead Fire Department. Mr. Greene was a U.S. Navy veteran, stationed in China for several months and then Pearl Harbor after WWII as a clerk. He is survived by one son, R. Steve Greene and wife Rita of Lenoir; one sister, Mrs. Polly Bentley of Lenoir; 2 grandchildren, Stephanie Icenhour and husband Tim of Lenoir; Jason Greene of Lenoir and 4 great-grandchildren, Shane, Cameron and Landon Icenhour and Alayah Greene. A Graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Belleview Cemetery with Pastor Michael Isaacs officiating. Services will conclude with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorials be made to Crestview Baptist Church Building Fund, 1908 Blowing Rock Blvd., Lenoir, NC 28645.
