Richard “Dayton” Robbins went home to be with his Savior on Thursday, March 24, 2022. He was born on April 23, 1944 to the late Richard Robbins and wife Louise. Dayton was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Robbins and a sister, Marie “Chuckie” Robbins. Survivors include his wife of 54 years Evelyn, one daughter Tina Cooper and husband Billy, and two sons Dayton Robbins and wife Michelle and Bobby Robbins and wife Bethany, all of Lenoir. Survivors also include seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and countless children who adopted him as their “PawPaw”. Surviving siblings are sisters; Sue Owens and husband Earl of Hudson, NC, Mary Robbins of Lenoir, NC, Angel Philyaw and husband Jeff of Collettsville, NC, Kathy Beard of Lenoir, NC, and Wanda Carol Young of Washington State, and brothers, Clayton Robbins, Johnny Robbins and wife Nelda and Paul H. Robbins all of Lenoir, NC. Dayton was a loving husband, father and grandfather who desired for his life to bring glory to Christ in all that he did. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church of Lenoir, NC and over the years he preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ, taught various Sunday school classes, sang in the choir, worked with the youth groups, and volunteered with local prison ministries. Mr. Robbins was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Robbins spent most of his life working in local furniture factories and retired from Cedar Rock County Club. His passions included fishing, hunting and loving on his family and friends. The family will receive friends and family at Grace Baptist Church in Lenoir on Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm. A service will follow at 3:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Ronnie Watson. Interment will follow after the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be friends and family members. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grace Baptist Church Building Fund at 2306 Howard Arnett Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
