Richard Jenkins

Granite Falls – Carl Richard Jenkins, Jr., age 70, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, July 26, 2020. He was born in Catawba County on October 21, 1949 to the late Carl Richard Jenkins, Sr. and Margaret Sherrill Jenkins. He was married to Beverly Blevins Jenkins of the home for 36 years. Richard was a dedicated 2nd generation public servant. He served the citizens of Granite Falls and Caldwell County for over 44 years as a Fire Captain with Granite Falls Fire Department. In addition, he directed and oversaw the 911 communications for Caldwell County and the City of Lenoir. He was also a dispatcher for Lenoir and Granite Falls Police Departments. In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughter Wendy Jenkins Kurfees and husband Richard, and son Rich Jenkins and wife Danielle; grandchildren Mason, Noah, Carter, and Sarah Brooke Kurfees; sister Sandra Woodard, brother Charles Jenkins, and cousin Jay Tate; and countless brothers and sisters in emergency services. A memorial service celebrating Richard’s life will be held at First Baptist Church of Granite Falls Family Life Center on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at 4:00 PM with Chaplain Jason Hines officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. The family respectfully requests that social distancing be used and masks be worn.
