Ray William

Mr. Ray William Fox, age 84, of Ponce de Leon, Florida passed away March 10, 2015 at the Healthmark Regional Medical Center in DeFuniak Springs, Florida.He was born June 9, 1930 in Hudson, North Carolina to the late Dewey William Fox and Mary Jane Hall Fox. A 25-year military career in the US Army included his rise from Private to Major while on active service and then later promotion to Full Colonel in the Army Reserves.His service started in the Field Artillery and then moved to Air Defense, where he commanded a Nike Hercules missile site during the Cuban Missile Crisis.He also served with honor in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Upon his retirement from the Army, he farmed in Missouri before moving to Ponce de Leon in 1981. His life was all about service to others.He was an active deacon in Texas, Missouri and Florida.He volunteered for SBC Disaster Relief for over 20 years. He served on the State Executive Board for Florida Baptists.Some of his favorite trips were on mission trips, working on building sites.He was active in the local Chamber of Commerce and numerous civic organizations. In addition to his parents, Mr. Fox was preceded in death by his five siblings, Flora, Tressie, Ethel, Levi and Thurman.Mr. Fox is survived by his wife of 64 years, Laverral Fox of Ponce de Leon, FL; two sons, Ron Fox and wife Barbara of El Paso, TX and Jim Fox and wife Deborah of Arden, NC; two grandsons, Jeremy Ray Fox and Christopher Fox; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Katie, Zachary, Isabella. Family will receive friends from 9-11 AM Friday at Northside Baptist Church.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 13, 2015 at Northside Baptist Church in Ponce de Leon, Florida with Rev. Ken Harrison officiating.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Hudson, North Carolina.Peel Funeral Home in Bonifay, FL in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northside Baptist Church, 2831 N. Highway 81, Ponce de Leon, FL 32455.
