Ray Edgar Sparks

Hudson, NC- Mr. Ray Edgar Sparks, age 80, of Hudson, went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 31, 2009 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care surrounded by his family and friends. Born October 24, 1928 in Caldwell County, Mr. Sparks was the son of the late Dallas and Vivian Haas Sparks and the husband of Mrs. Dorothy Dula Sparks of the home. Mr. Sparks was a member of Poovey?s Chapel Baptist Church and attended there for more than 70 years and retired from Hickory Springs in 1991. He was the owner and operator of S & S Machinery. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. The family would like to say a special ?Thank You? to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care for their love and support during this time. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his half-sister, Ellen Loftin. Surviving other than his wife is his daughter, Judy Sparks Brown and husband Johnny of Lenoir; one son, Gerald Ray Sparks and wife Gail of Hudson; one Aunt, Julia Kirby of Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Michael Sparks and wife Lisa and Casey Sparks and wife Linda both of Hudson; Chad Brown and wife Angie and Amy Roop and husband Gwyn all of Lenoir; 5 great-grandchildren, Kasey Lynn Sparks, McKaley Sparks, Alston Brown, Abby Sparks and Mya Roop and numerous other nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Celebration of Mr. Sparks? life will be held 2:00 PM Monday, August 3, 2009 at Poovey?s Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Nicky Waters, Reverend Mark Dula and Reverend Charlie Keener officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 2, 2009 from 7 until 8:30 PM at Poovey?s Chapel Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be: Michael Sparks, Casey Sparks, Morris Bumgarner, Charles Hallyburton, Ronnie Garnes, Dale Haas, Mark Barlowe and Doug Hatley.
