Ray Lee Hawkins

October 15, 1943 — February 25, 2024

Ray Lee Hawkins went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 25, 2024 after a long battle of declining health. Ray was 80 years old. He was 1 of 10 children born to Crawford and Barbara Hawkins.

As well as his parents, Ray was preceded in death by brothers Howard, Glenn, Virgil and Wayne Hawkins and sisters Mae Jenkins, Hazel Craig, Margie Riley and Mildred Hawkins.

To know Ray was to love him. He had an infectious smile that would warm your heart. He was a hard- working man inside of work as well as outside. Ray was a skilled diesel mechanic and worked for Bernhardt Furniture for over 34 years and retired at the age of 74. Ray was also a devoted Christian and loved the lord and used his strong work ethic to serve the lord and the church as well. He served as a deacon, RA youth leader, Sunday School Teacher and sang in the Choir. Ray was a member of Cajah’s Mountain Baptist church for many years and currently is a member of Grandview Baptist Church. Over the years, Ray loved to garden, work on race cars, and work on anything mechanical. He also held bragging rights that he had watched every western movie ever made!

Ray touched the lives of all who knew him but the legacy that he built and the most important thing to him aside from God was his family! Ray married the love of his life, Doris Coffey Hawkins, and they were blessed to have spent 60 years of marriage together. Their love grew into a beautiful family.

Left to cherish the memories of one of the greatest men, husband, brother, Daddy and Paw Paw, is his wife Doris, one sister Bonnie (Ronald) Coffey, his children Cynthia (Todd) Chapman, Todd (Kelly) Hawkins, Denise (Dennis) Spencer, and Tonya Hawkins. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren Dustin (Teresa) Chapman, Travis (Katie) Chapman, Kameron (Lauren Quigley) Hawkins, Kylee (Colby Collins) Hawkins, Jessica (Tim) Patton, Shane (Heather) Spencer, Johnathan (Grace) Hawkins, Taylor (Daniel) Farley. He also had 13 great Grandchildren Trystin, Dalton, Josiah, Jedidiah and Joanna Chapman, Cole Quigley, Hadley and Thomas Patton, Josiah, Easton, Lane and Amos Spencer, and Paisley Ann Hawkins. Ray also had numerous nephews and nieces that were very special to him.

A ceremony to honor Ray will be held at Evans Funeral Home on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 1:00 pm with a time for friends and family to gather immediately following the service ending at 2:30 pm.

A private graveside service will take place at the family home where Ray will be laid to rest. Officiating the funeral will be his son in law Pastor Todd Chapman and Pastor Raymond Spann. Pall Barriers will be his grandsons, Dustin Chapman, Travis Chapman, Kameron Hawkins, Shane Spencer, Johnathan Hawkins, Tim Patton, Colby Collins, and Daniel Farley.

For those wishing to send flowers, the family would suggest a potted perennial plant or shrub that can be planted in the family graveyard in honor of his love of gardening and nature.
