Jim Cannon Granite Falls, NC - Ralph James “Jim†Cannon, 82, from Granite Falls went to be with the Lord on August 12, 2012 at his residence. Mr. Cannon was born February, 9, 1930, in Caldwell County to the late William Pinkney Cannon and Sarah Emmaline Smith Cannon. He was a member of Dry Ponds Baptist Church. He spent many years working as a carpenter and retired from the Textile Industry and he also delivered the Hickory Daily Record. He loved building and fixing anything and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Lester “Bud†Cannon and Ray Cannon and sisters, Sadie Lail and Verna Beane.  He is survived by his wife Betty Cannon Cannon. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on August 15. He is also survived by his 2 sons, Dennis Cannon and wife Sherry from Bethlehem and Donald Cannon from Granite Falls; 3 daughters, Melba Atkinson and husband Alex from Newton, Brenda Killian and husband Billy from Taylorsville, and Lorraine Burns and husband Bill from Granite Falls; 7 Grandchildren, 5 Step Grandchildren, 13 Great Grandchildren, 3 Step Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Phillip Cannon and wife Pat and Ivy Cannon from Granite Falls, Clarence “Jack†Cannon and wife Emu from Hickory; sisters Kathleen Lail and Effie Dishman from Granite Falls, Rebecca Sigmon and husband Hal from Hudson and Anna Lea Duncan from Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Dry Ponds Baptist Church Building Fund or Caldwell County Hospice. Pallbearers will be Robbie Atkinson, Chris Cannon, Carroll Cannon, Howard Cannon, Roy Cannon, Bobby Lail, Gwynn Spann, and Travis Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Bible Class and Gerald Hollar.  Receiving will be held Thursday, August 16th at Dry Ponds Baptist from 6 PM to 7:30 PM.  Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 PM on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Dry Ponds Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Crouse, Rev. Josh Dellinger and Rev.
